Hello Denise,
I noticed that one of the previous posts mentioned that there were 11 siblings in the Isler family. I only located 7 in Fanas and perhaps the other siblings were born elsewhere. The ones I found are:

Jacobus 3 January 1813
Konrad 30 April 1815
Anna 4 Aug 1816
Johannes 25 May 1822
Elsbeth 12 June 1825
Johannes 7 February 1830
Rudolf 9 December 1832.

There is also the marriage date of 16 February 1812 in Fanas.

I also located in my data base the death dates of Jacobus who died 2 May 1864 in Schiers
and the first Johannes who died 21 March 1825

There are probably records for Jacobus in Schiers since he was about 50 when he died

Good luck with your hunt

Hi Bookey,

Thanks for all the information you sent me. So many years I'm searching for the family history! I will contact this other person to see where I can find the rest of the data. I guess I have to ask for the microfilms to go on with the search.

Best regards,

Denise

It appears that the Konrad born 6 July 1838 is a grandchild of Jakob and Magdalena and the Catharina Barbara also does not belong to Jakob and Magdalena. Magdalena is 41 years of age when Rudolf was born in 1832! The other children would be after the child bearing years of the mother?

Hallo Bookey,

I'm still a bit lost in the forum, because there are posts here and in Nauders and there is so much information now, that I have to print and organize. I had a few days of vacation and when I come back I saw even more data.

I have a doubt: why assume that Catharina was born in 1820? I notice that there are two children without birth date. What about if Catharina was a child from Jacob and Anna Davatz (his first marriage),

Jacob und Magdalena were married in 1811, so maybe Catharina was born before this date?

Regards,

Denise

Hello Denise, I didn't mention a Catharina born in 1820. I only mentioned the children that I found in Fanas. The information about Catharina came from the family group record that was sent. I mentioned that the children shown in the group record are not correct since the next to the last one, born 1832, is identified as a grand child of the couple you were discussing and not a child. Given the birth of the first child in 1813 the mother is probable too old to have had the child in 1838.

Hallo Bookey,

That's right, I saw this information in a list somebody made. I don't understand why it says Catharina (the mother of Alois) was born around 1820, but no precise date. How can I find out her birthday? As her father was married before to Anna Davatz I was wondering if she could be a child of them.
You also mentioned a marriage on 16.12.1812 so this is the marriage of Jacob and Magdalena?

Thanks so much for your help!

Regards,

Denise

Hello Denise, Yes the marriage in 1812 in Fanas is for Jacob Isler and Magdalena Sturzenegger. I have attached a copy of that marriage. I have no information about Catharina or if she belongs to this family. I didn't see a record of her in the Fanas records I checked.

Hallo Bookey,

Thanks for your answer again! Yesterday I made a huge improvement about Katharina. I found out a paper when she changes to be a catholic in 1846 in Zizers. In this papers says that she also marries a Galliard. This is the story we always knew about the family and this is why Alois was sent to Brasil. His stepfather wanted him to be a priest and he didn't wanted.

I also found out a family tree of the Galliard family and there she is!

I would like to attach this documents here, but I don't know how to do it, can you tell me?

Regards,

Denise

Hello Denise, Its great you found additional information about your family. Did you find where Katharina was born? Remember that when you upload the family tree into this forum it should be in another thread for the Galliard line.

Hallo Bookey,

I was very happy to find this file and it was by chance. I found it in the site bellow:

http://download.burgenverein-untervaz.c ... 0Isler.pdf

My interest in the research is to follow the steps my grandfather took until he came to Rio Grande do Sul, the state I live, after he arrived in São Paulo. He married my great grandmother when he as already near 50 years old and I already found information about him in São Paulo.

I know that before he came to Brazil, his stepfather, Peter Galliard, wanted him to be a priest, so now I go for looking where he could have studied. Maybe in Chur, so I will write them.

Thanks again for your super help!

Denise

Hello Denise, that's a great find. I noticed the record says it is from the archive in Untervaz and was signed by the priest from Zizers. I have access to records from Zizers, both catholic and reformed. I do not have access to any records from Untervaz.

Hello Denise, thanks for the link to possible Untervaz records. Good luck in your search. If you need other help in the Graubunden records contact me again.

This was a quote from a list sent to you - your questions a relevant! ... and I suggest you ask "Carmen" about these dates (the birth around 1820 seems not to be the only dates needed to be checked).

As pointed out by Bookey already: these details should be published in a separate thread on Galliard - which then could be linked to.

Hallo everybody,

I manage to organize a bit the information about the family and now I track Catharina's infos and Alois Nauderer family in Jerzens.

About Katharina, I found out the document she changed to be a catholic. We had this information by oral stories from the old relatives in the family and also the reason why Alois came to Brazil. It seems his stepfather wanted him to be a priest and didn't want the boy in the family and so, Alois came to Brazil with Katharina's mother.

In the document Katharina changed to be a catholic, it is said she was born in 1818. I wonder why we cannot find her birth certificate. I'm also interested in what happened after she married Peter Galliard.

Regards,

Denise

Hello Denise, I was interested in the additional information you found. I thought I would look around the parishes near Fanas and see if I could see a birth record for Catharina about 1820. No luck so far with that search. I did find something interesting in the records of Grüsch however. I found the marriage of Catharina's sister Anna. You haven't mentioned how much you know about the Jacob Isler family from Fanas. Are you interested in the families of Jacob and Anna the son and daughter of Jacob and Magdalena?

Let me try to summarize the information on Catharina Isler.

Catharina is the daughter of Jakob Isler & Magdalena Sturzenegger. We have two estimated years of birth (1818 and 1820) - but her birth/baptismal entry still has not been found.

On 07.07.1841 in Fanas she gives birth to her illegitimate son Alois Nauderer.

On 28.04.1846 she gets married to Peter Galliard. The couple has 6 children.

Hello Denise, I have searched the parish registers from 1817-1821 for a Catharina Isler birth in Fanas, Schiers, Seewis, Jenins, Schuders, Furna, Valzeina, Igis, Zizers, Grüsch, Jenaz, Fideris, St. Antonien Ruti and Castels and have not seen an entry for the birth. I have seen records for her siblings and don't know if they are of interest.

Hallo Wolf and Bookey,

Thanks, Wolf for the summary!

Bookey, thanks for your interest and your help. This is very funny, because in the paper she changed to be a catholic it said she was born in 1818. I had this doubt that she could be the daughter of Jacob Isler and Anna Davatz, but then her birthday had to be before 1812.

Denise

Hello Denise, I am not saying she is not the daughter of Jakob and Magdalena, I just don't see a record for her in those parishes. They are the nearest parishes around Fanas. There is the six year space between the 1816 birth and the 1822 birth that Catharina or someone else very well could have been born in. It is just curious that she is not found in the records of Fanas. There is an 1835 census in Graubünden that might show her with the family. When I get an opportunity I will look there. You didn't answer if you were interested in information about her possible sister and brother and their families.

Yes, she probably was born in 1818, the funny thing is that there is no record. I just needed the names of sister and brothers, as I would like to track Katharina's family.
