Marti von Pfaffnau LU
Elizabeth Marti was born 3 Sep 1837 in Pfaffnau, Luzern, Switzerland. I have her parent's names. I don't know if she had siblings. By the time she was married to Joseph Grob about 1865/66 she was in Detroit, MI and I assume with her parents.

Re: Marti von Pfaffnau LU
I can only confirm that Marti have been citizens of Pfaffnau since before 1800.
Which were Elizabeth's parents' names?

Re: Marti von Pfaffnau LU
Her father was Vincenius Marti and mother was Anna Maria Meyer. I received this information from a family Bible that also indicates they were from Pfaffnau.

Re: Marti von Pfaffnau LU
I am truly appreciative to have all this information regarding the Marti family. Is this transcribed information from original documents? I had never found information beyond Vincenz Marti. Thank you so much as I now have information as early as 1716. I am presently working on verifying the marriage record of Joseph and Elizabeth (Marti) Grob.
Her obituary tells they were married in Detroit, MI USA. I have done extensive research in Detroit records but in the mid-1800's records were not required. Joseph is seen on the passenger list with an Elizabeth Grob. We will see what information I can find, then I will post it when confirmed. Thank you again!

Re: Marti von Pfaffnau LU
You're welcome. The information are all from the records of the parish Pfaffnau: The marriage and death records since about 1775 are very detailed, so you can easily find the baptism record of the person. The information of Niklaus Marti, Josef Büttiker and Barbara Schütz are from the "Status animarum", a book, in which all the inhabitants of Pfaffnau and Roggliswil were recorded (with the place they lived and often their date of baptism). The oldest "Status animarum" is from about 1775.
Here is the list of your Marti-ancestors. I looked further and found some more, but in the time before 1700 it gets rather difficult and it takes a lot more time, because the records contain rather few information. If you want to do research of your own, you can find the films of the parish records of Pfaffnau at the mormons. The baptisms date back to 1612 and there are Marti since at least then in Pfaffnau.
Johann Marti.
Born: about 1680, probably in Pfaffnau
Died: maybe the 11.05.1749 in Pfaffnau, Altweg ?
oo 07.02.1707 in Pfaffnau
Maria Tschümperli. No typical name in Pfaffnau.
Born: about 1680, probably not in Pfaffnau
Burried: 22.11.1716 in Pfaffnau
Niklaus Marti. Son of Johann Marti and Maria Tschümperli.
Baptized: 11.12.1715 in Pfaffnau
Died: 05.10.1783 in Pfaffnau, Sagen
oo 04.02.1743 in Pfaffnau
Anna Barbara Rimen (Rämer, Rismer). Her name is difficult to read and seems to appear in different forms.
Born: about 1723, probably not in Pfaffnau
Died: 07.02.1769 in Pfaffnau, Sagen
Vinzenz Leonz Marti. Son of Niklaus Marti and Barbara Rimen (Rämer, Rismer).
Baptized: 01.11.1749 in Pfaffnau
Died: 05.01.1818 in Pfaffnau, Sagen
oo 03.02.1789 in Pfaffnau
Barbara Büttiker. Daughter of Josef Büttiker and Barbara Schütz.
Baptized: 17.09.1760 in Pfaffnau
Died: after 1834
Vinzenz Marti. Son of Vinzenz Leonz Marti and Barbara Büttiker.
Baptized: 27.02.1793 in Pfaffnau
Died: ?
oo 27.05.1816 in Pfaffnau
Anna Maria Meyer. Daugther of Verena Graf.
Baptized: ?
Died: ?
Do you want copies of the original entries? If yes, i could post them here.
Is it possible, that they married in Lucerne? If you suspect a certain parish, I could look it up.
Sincerely
Felber

Re: Marti von Pfaffnau LU
I am most grateful and overwhelmed by all this family information. I look forward to entering it into my family history data and really understanding it all. The images would be amazing to have if not too time consuming to post. Otherwise I do plan to order the microfilm as I would like to learn about siblings of my direct lineage, etc. Elizabeth Marti's family was always a mystery, but now we find more information to help us know about them! Thank you.
The marriage of Elizabeth and Joseph is a mystery because I see in the obituary it states they married in Detroit, MI and yet no records are available for those years in the courts or churches I have searched. There is Elizabeth Grob listed on the passenger list with Joseph but as I mentioned earlier this could be a sister or cousin to Joseph. I will continue to see what I can find and let you know. Always there is a question to answer!

Re: Marti von Pfaffnau LU
You're welcome. Here are the pictures. If you have problems reading them, just ask. If you have problems with the Latin, here is a good online dictionnary: http://www.frag-caesar.de/
If you want to trace your ancestors further back in the 17th century, I would also take a look in the "Jahrzeitbücher" of Pfaffnau. They're a bit difficult to read and are written in old German but they can be a useful help.
Good luck for finding the marriage of Elizabeth and Joseph.
Sincerely

Re: Marti von Pfaffnau LU
Once again I thank you for your assistance. The record images are very good and I did use the dictionary online to translate. I continue the search for the marriage record of Joseph and Elizabeth but believe I will not find one.... I don't give up however! Only a short time ago I only knew of Elizabeth Marti Grob and her parents... now I have a more complete record of the Marti line, and also the Grob.
If you are associated with an archive/history center I will be happy to send a copy of the Grob/Marti history when I complete it sometime in 2015. I will also offer this to one of the locations in Solothurn.
Thank you once again.

Whilst the forum is not "associated" with the Swiss Genealogical Society, I am sure they would appreciate a copy of your text for their library. It would be best to contact the person responsible for SGFF-Bibliothek | Zeitschriften once you have your text completed.sas46 hat geschrieben:If you are associated with an archive/history center I will be happy to send a copy of the Grob/Marti history when I complete it sometime in 2015.
Marti are from canton Luzern. The regional society there is Zentralschweizerische Gesellschaft für Familienforschung - they actually use this forum for discussions between their members, so you could call this "assiciated". I am sure they would also appreciate a copy - contact the "Obmann" (scroll down on page), or alternatively Markus Lischer, who works at the Luzern State Archive, where they hold many documents on emigration from the region.

Once again, you're welcome.
Beside the adresses of Wolf, I would also consider giving a copy to the Luzern State Archive. They collect works of the families from the canton Luzern and other interested people could easily find your work there.
