Johannes Beusch (*1867)

Beitrag von Wolf » Di 22. Jan 2019, 19:35

Johannes Beusch is born 04 Apr 1867 in Grabs, baptised 14 Apr. 1867, as son of Johann Beusch and Catharina Eggenberger. Referenz is made to Familienbuch, vol. III, nr. 56. (unfortunately this doesn't seem to be available online).

The Bürgerregister is online - you'll find the entire family as nr.236 (right side bottom) in vol.2. For Johannes' (the father's) parents reference is made to vol.1, page 143, nr.330; for Katharina Eggenberger's parents reference is made to vol.1, page 253, nr.594. For Johannes (the son) reference is made to vol.2, page 763 - together with a note that he emigrated to Amerika, as did his brother Andreas (page 764); unfortunately the digitized record stops at page 527, the later information being "too young" to be freely available according to Swiss privacy legislation.

Bürgerregister does not give you any information further back - instead you have to consult the church records. As a first step you should check the above mentioned Thommen Collection, though: you can go to the Beusch families of Grabs directly. Scroll down to
#108: Johann Beusch (1838-1874) oo Cathrin Eggenberger (1842-1925) >>> Johann *1867
# 85: Burkhard Beusch (1794-1854) oo Cathrin Gantenbein (1801-1865) >>> Johann *1838
# 57: Ueli Beusch (1750-1795) oo Cathrin Forrer (1755-1835) >>> Burkhard *1794
# 29: Hans Beusch (marries before 1751) Maria Eggenberger >>> Ueli *1751 (1750?)

Once you know the years, it should not be too time consuming to find the exact dates in the Grabs church records (may take some time to load). Unfortunately the earlier records were destroyed by a fire in 1733.

Hello! My name is Carly Beusch and I live in the United States. My great grandfather, John Burkhart Beusch (April 7, 1867 - September 25, 1950), was born in Grabs, St. Gallen, Switzerland. After e-mailing with Wolf, I have been informed that he was born Johann(es) Beusch, and likely took the middle name of Burkhart in memory of a deceased brother.

He immigrated to the United States with his mother, Katharine Eggenberger (May 10, 1842 - May 4, 1925), and his brother, Andrew Beusch (September 7, 1871 - February 18, 1945) as a young boy. Andrew Beusch's given name was Andreas Beusch. He and my great grandfather no doubt "Americanized" their first names. Katherine Eggenberger was widowed young, as her husband the boys' father, Johann Beusch (January 16, 1838 - April 9, 1874) died while the boys were small.

They settled in Livingston County, Illinois, in the United States, with Katherine Eggenberger's second husband, Ulrich Eggenberger (April 7, 1839 - December 9, 1917), who was also originally from Switzerland.

Andrew Beusch remained in Illinois, and to my knowledge, never married or had children.

John (Johann(es)) Beusch, however, married Perlina June Tuffs (1868-1951) and had 11 children, of whom 7 survived to adulthood. He and Perlina moved to Washington state. He died on September 25, 1950, in Bremerton, Kitsap County, Washington. He left behind:
- Ernest Burkhart Beusch (1894-1972)
- Mary Ellen Beusch (1896-1962)
- Hazel Viola Beusch (1899-1994)
- William Alden Beusch (1901-1965)
- Melvin LeRoy Beusch (1903 - 1956) [my grandfather]
- Earl Edwin Beusch (1905-1984)
- Florence Kathryn Beusch (1910-2000)
He also had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren at the time of his death. His wife, Perlina, died in 1951. My Dad was young when John Beusch died, but the stories he heard from his older family members all indicated that my great grandfather was a very smart and kind man who was dedicated to his family.

I am trying to find out more information about my ancestors from Switzerland, as well as to see if there are any modern day descendants still in Switzerland.

I would also be glad to provide as much information about the Beusch family in the United States to anyone who is interested.

I also wanted to thank Wolf again for his assistance. He has provided me with more information in a few e-mails than I've been able to find researching on my own for the last several years.

3) Eggenberger Cathrina (Grabs 10.05.1842 - Illinois, USA 04.05.1925) of Grabs SG, daughter of Andreas and Eggenberger Agathe

4) Beusch Burkhard (Grabs 12.02.1794 - Grabs 06.02.1854) of Grabs SG
oo Grabs 07.12.1817 >>> 2 children (plus 1 dies very young)

16) Beusch Hans (before 1733 - after 1756) of Grabs SG
oo Grabs 07.11.1749 >>> Ueli only known child

Any additional information is most welcome.
Maternal lines should be discussed in their own, family specific topics.
