Excuse me please, but would it be possible to look up a name in the Saanen KB? I'm looking for the family of Peter Frautschi who may have originated there, born approx 1696. I have a Peter Frautschy in the Kassel, Germany area beginning in 1737. He is connected with a family of dairy cattle owners who apparently originated in Switzerland. The name Frautschi is not common and seems to mostly originate in the Saanen area. Thank you for any assistance.

Frautschi sind Altbürger von Saanen im Kanton Bern (Schweiz).

Dort wird am 18. November 1696 ein Peter Frutschi getauft (Taufrodel 7, Seite 281).

Peter Zingri (Chorr. = Chorrichter)

Barbara Zingri

Ulrich Frutschi & Catrina Schopfer haben am 1. Februar 1692 in Saanen geheiratet.

Der Tod Datensatz zeigt ein Geburtsdatum 22. Nov 1696. Also, ja, mein Peter Frautschi (Frutschi) wurde in Saanen geboren.

Entschuldigen Sie, aber darf ich fragen, wo die Saanen CD zum Kauf erhältlich ist? Auch die Kosten? Ich wohne in den USA (offensichtlich).

The CDs are no longer available (to my knowledge) - but most records are online now:

Unfortunately Saanen doesn't seem to be amongst them (as the records themselves are not kept at the State Archive).

Thank you very much for the information. It appears the LDS has the 9 CDs and can be viewed from their website, www.familysearch.org, but only when viewed via their Salt Lake City Library. I will check with tomorrow to see if they may also be viewed via the linked computers in their remote Research Centers, one of which is near to my location. Wish me luck!

Good to hear that these "missing" CDs are accessible via familysearch. To my knowledge they are accessible for all members of the Church, even at home (with personal access data/password) and from all Research Centres.

Could you report here, if that is correct, please?

Hello, I had called my local LDS Research Center, and they advised me that I could only view the records from the Salt Lake City location. I will say though, that I'm not entirely sure that the person I spoke with understood my question.

Within the next week or two I will make a trip over to the Center and will try to access the records myself, just to be certain. I will let you know what I find out.

Hello, I'm so sorry it took me longer to get to the LDS research center than I originally estimated. It seems they've changed their hours of operation and it was difficult to get there when both they were open and I was available.

Unfortunately, the Saanen CDs are not available for viewing from any remote LDS research center. Apparently they can only be viewed at the Salt Lake City location.

Hopefully the State Archives of Canton Bern will make them available soon.
