I have two generations that I am currently seeking to document:

• 1. Name Corrections - Unfortunately, I am not familiar with transcribing the old script handwriting and need corrections to the spellings of the names.
  2. Actual citations for the parish records, rather than just the Mormon microfilm.

SECOND is the generation that immigrated to the United States in 1875, and for which I have more validating evidence after 1875.

Seeking:

• 1. Name validations/corrections
  2. I would like to locate the St. Gallen records, for example the birth, baptism and/or marriage records.

I understand that the geographical region around Wil SG can be difficult to trace, as the surrounding towns cross into Canton Thurgau. The family's heimrecht has not been very clear.

Working with a genealogist for records in Canton Bern for Rosine Gÿgli's Gemeinde Utzenstorf, I previously identified two Kappeler baptism records in Kirchberg BE just south of where their mother must of had heimreckt in Utzenstorf BE. The earlier baptisms were not located there. However, the father was baptised in Wylen (Wil), and there are references to both Beckingen TG and Rickenbach bei Wil TG. As his baptism was recorded in the parish records in Wil SG, perhaps the earlier births were also in Canton St. Gallen.

Citation #1: Kirchgemeinde Utzenstorf, Kirchenbücher 15:211 #8: an almost illegible entry dated 27 April 1854 and with only the date of April 23 recorded for the three banns (normally on three successive Sundays) that the proclamation of impending marriage should have been announced, the minister recorded the marriage 27 April 1854 of Johann Klyllen (???) Kappeler, von Wyl zu Beckingen, Cant. St. Gallen und ...sau zu Solothurn [to] Rosina Gÿgli, Samuels von hier, zu Solothurn, Dispens von der 2ten und 3ten... Die Heirat der Eltern Jakob Thomas Kappeler (*24.12.1785) und Maria Elisabetha Eisenring (*11.01.1790) hatte am 13.05.1813 in Rickenbach bei Wil stattgefunden.

Beim Heiratseintrag des Sohnes 1854 in Utzensdorf BE wird dieser benannt als "Johann (Kasper?) Kappeler von Wyl & ab Beckingen, Cant. St.Gallen & Thurgau, zu ....sau (Gossau?)". Die jüngsten Kinder des Ehepaares Kappeler-Gÿgli werden in Kirchberg BE getauft, der Geburtsort der älteren Kinder ist nicht bekannt.

Laut Familiennamenbuch sind Kappeler Bürger von

Wenn mit dem Wohnort Wylen, Wilen bei Wil TG, gemeint ist - wäre das nicht die Pfarrei Rickenbach bei Wil TG als Alternative zu Wil SG - und würde damit Rickenbach bei Wil TG zum wahrscheinlichen Bürgerort dieser Kappeler-Linie machen?

[§] Comment added later: the wedding is recorded in the wedding register of Wil SG on 10(!).05.1813 (not 13.) / Maria Elisabetha Isenring is listed as living in Jonschwil - likely also citizen of Jonschwil (modern spelling = Eisenring). The second marriage (1841) is not recorded in Wil.
Nachtrag: Laut Ehebuch Wil SG fand die Heirat am 10(!).05.1813 (nicht am 13.) in Wil statt. Für Maria Elisabetha Isenring wird Jonschwil als Herkunftsort angegeben - vmtl. auch Bürgerort (dann wäre die heutige Schreibweise Eisenring). Die zweite Heirat (1841) ist nicht in Wil eingetragen.

As mentioned above - there is no such wedding entry in the wedding register. Obviously the date was taken from the "Haushaltungsregister" (which is on the same film), and - whoever transcribed the information, just assumed that the couple got married in Rickenbach - whilst they (later) only lived there.
